Giving the ol’ P90X…3 a try

As alluded to in my previous post, it’s been a while since I posted let alone posted anything related to fitness or exercise. It was late November last year when I decided enough was enough with not doing anything since being laid up with lower back, right hip flexor and glute problems that have been aggravated by my running through the spring and early summer.

On top of that I also started a new job in June and with all new jobs it can get pretty stressful getting used to new everythings (ways of doing things, getting to know your colleagues, places to discover eating out). It didn’t take long before I started packing on a few more pounds and the pants started getting a bit tight again.

I was thinking of getting back into the P90X routine. I’m no stranger to P90X, having done 2+ rounds of it and even a round of P90X2. It was after scrolling through my Twitter feed and hearing some folks talk about P90x3 being ready for ordering and shipping in early December that got me to check out the beachbody.com site to check it out.

The one biggest beef I had with the original P90X program was the time it took. Being at my previous job, I had a fairly fixed 9 to 5 schedule so getting up at 5:30am to spend about an hour a day to work out worked for me. With this new job, I get a lot of east coast clients or emails from east coast/UK folks so oftentimes I have to get up as early as 6am to attend calls or respond to emails in a timely manner, so I figured it was going to be a challenge to get back into the P90X groove. I’m an early morning workout person and when I get home, the last thing I feel like doing is working out.

But P90X3 has pretty much solved the time management issue for me…all workouts are 30 to 35 minutes (including cooldown moves).

I started January 6th, and 21 days and I am feeling a lot more energized. It’s going to be an uphill climb, I feel like I’ve lost a lot of my fitness gains over the last 18 months  but I have prior experience from committing to these workout programs now to know I can do this again, and it is a worthwhile effort doing it again. Now to get the nutrition dialed in to follow.
